Well that’s the first bit of the Christmas period over with and so far it has been very good, no major problems on the ground and the development is moving forward on time, we have so far had an amazing amount of water with the levels just getting to the zoo before it started to recede, one of our old pathways flooded but no too bad , nothing to worry about anyway.
All the birds and animals are doing very well in this unusual weather better than most of us people lets put it that way!! As the temperatures reach a tropical 12 deg C and in December, I am sure they think Spring is on the way as lots of them start displaying to each other.
Over on Ivanvale the nature reserve, the lakes are the highest they’ve ever been, being around 300mm higher than normal and for the first time ever they have breached the path in Lauras corner (Ivanvale has each area named to assist in development) as you can see from the photographs, even some of the trees are under water, but hopefully no damage will result.
Latest news on our proposed conservation program: the ground is almost ready with over 10 ton of substrate being relocated on to the neighbouring land, and in this weather thats a major task believe me. Now we have to relocate 300 birds within our confines so we can level the last bit too, then the exciting part where we lay the hardcore and foundations revealing just how large the area is. I will work a way out to get some photographs of it.
Finally I am just rounding up the years paperwork and completing the dreaded archiving, building new offices as we did this year is one thing, but we need a further office just for archived material, theres mountains of it, bird admin forms, medical forms, health checks, daily vermin reports, daily maintenance checks, daily keeper reports, visitor surveys, accounts and the list goes on and on, theres more to running a small zoo than you think 🙂
Okay back to the paperwork 🙁
